Alternate Accountability alert.District and state policies may indicate that students over a certain age or in specific grades would never be accountable for unlawful absences. For example, in some states, students in pre-kindergarten or at least 17 years old are not required by law to attend school. Therefore, your district policy may be that these students should never be marked with an absence code that is considered unlawful.
The eSchoolPLUS System provides the ability for your district to specify the grades and the minimum age at which students are not accountable for unlawful absences. If a student in one of your classes is in a grade or over the minimum age for alternate accountability, the Attendance Entry by List page's Alerts column displays the Alternate Accountability alert.
Your district administrator can define alternate accountability codes for the absence codes that your district considers to be unlawful. When attendance is entered for an absence code that has an alternate accountability code and the student meets your district alternate accountability requirements, the system stores the alternate accountability code when you save the record.
As a result, the absence code listed for a student may be different from the code you selected on the Entry by List page when you review attendance reports. For example, you may only mark students absent by checking the A (Absent) box for students, but students who meet the alternate accountability requirement may have a different absence code stored than students who do not meet the criteria.
The following example illustrates the processing that occurs when an alternate accountability code is inserted in place of the entered absence code.
