Excusing a Student from an Assignment

Use this procedure to excuse a student from an assignment. When a student does not get a score for an assignment and the due date for the assignment has passed, the assignment is considered to be a missing assignment. When you define the categories you use and specify how you want IPR and/or Report Card averages to be calculated, you can select whether a missing assignment should count as if the student got a 0 (zero) or if the assignment should be excluded from the average.

To Excuse a Student Using an Alpha Score

If there are situations where you want to be able to indicate that the student does not need to have a score, you can enter an alpha score for the assignment. Your district defines the available alpha scores.

  1. From Gradebook, select Entry to display the Gradebook Entry page.
  2. If you are in SBGB Summary Mode, click for GB Entry mode or for SBGB Detail mode on the mode selector .
  3. If you need to update the class or marking period, click Change to display the Class List pop-up, and make your selections.
  4. If the assignment is not displayed on the assignment header, select the appropriate category or mark type in the Competencies and Marks filters or the Categories and Marks filter drop-down fields.
  5. On the Gradebook Entry page, double-click on a score field to display the list of alpha scores.
  6. Click on the desired alpha score.
